Interpersonal Functioning

comprised of social skills, connectedness, social cognition, and intimacy: putting oneself in uncomfortable positions

How I employ this practice?

To me interpersonal functioning means actively working on stepping outside of my comfort zone to engage with others in new and sometimes unfamiliar settings. To strengthen this area, I’ve joined organizations like Sisters of Sophie and AMSA. These groups have helped me connect with peers. Attending events and participating in discussions have not only improved my confidence, but also allowed me to build stronger relationships and gain new perspectives.

I have also used GroupMe and social media apps to stay connected with other clubs and events. These tools have helped me place myself in more socially engaging situations. By actively participating making communication a habit, I will learn to navigate different social settings more comfortably. This growth in interpersonal functioning is a big part in my journey toward becoming a physician.
